Macy Macy was found in the country struggling to survive in the coldest part of winter. The rescue took her in knowing she had tested positive for heartworm. When the pound got her before we did, she also had Pneumonia. Diamond In The Ruff took her in with the plans of treating her heartworm and getting her back on her feet. She was having a hard time breathing so she was taken to the vet. After x-rays, they discovered she had an enlarged heart and a tumor that was growing around her trachea. They guessed her to be around 10 years old. With the heartworm, tumor, and her age, they came to the conclusion that she would not be able to survive heartworm treatment or surgery to remove the tumor. Something about her story tugged at my heart, so I offered to foster her and keep her comfortable. She was put on some meds that helped greatly! After about 2 hours of having her in my house I knew I wanted to adopt her even though she was considered a "hospice" dog, and didn't have much time left. She was so sweet, she deserved to have a family for the remainder of her life! So I officially adopted her and within 2 days she was my Velcro dog. She refused to leave my side! I was lucky enough to be able to take her to work with me every day where she would lay by my table until I was done working. She got to experience what it was like to be clean, to be able to sleep on a comfy bed, and even a lot of new fun treats! Her health seemed to be improving with the extra steps I was taking to care for her but on one very sad morning, 19 days later, she unfortunately lost her battle unexpectedly. I am heartbroken our friendship had to end so soon, but I am so grateful that I got the chance to spoil her and show her how great life could be until she had to go.
