Foster Feedback: 9/20/16 Vinnie was recently returned to DITR and is now back up for adoption! Here's what his foster has to say so far: We've had Vinnie for about a week and a half and we just love him to death. Vinnie took about a day to warm up to us in our home. He was very shy and timid and unsure. But after he figured out he was welcome and we liked him, his confidence came alive. It's been fun having him in our house! Vinnie loves his home and everyone in it. Because of this he can tend to be a little protective when new people or animals come around (he's been fine with our puggle), which can be a little typical for his chihuahua side of his genes! Vinnie LOVES to go on walks - just tell him "we're going for a walk" and he'll not be able to contain himself while you tie your shoes and get ready to go out the door! He also loves to be near his people; loves to follow us around, loves to snuggle on the couch. AND he also thinks he's a human so I will occasionally catch him in our bed under some blankets with his head on a pillow. Stinker! We think he will do great in a home with older children if children are present. His previous owner reported he got fairly agitated when new kids would come around. We also think he would do great with anyone familiar with chihuahuas and/or dachshunds as each breed has their own very big personalities! 11/15/15 Vinnie has been doing great! He had started limping and we found out that he had fractured his leg somehow - probably from landing wrong after jumping off furniture. He spent the last month in a splint, and has now gotten a clean bill of health. He continues to be a cuddly lap dog, but enjoys walks and playing with his foster brother (our yellow lab). He continues to do well with being house broken. He is still shy with new people, but warms up quickly when given the space and time to do so. He got defensive with an overzealous puppy at the vet, but was sweet and curious with another more submissive dog. He would make a great companion for a family with older and considerate children, or anyone wanting a sweet loving adorable best buddy! 10/10/15 Vinnie has settled right in! At first he was terrified of everyone, but he never snapped or growled, he would just immediately roll onto his back. Now that he is more comfortable, he has found his voice. He will bark when strangers (to him) come around, but quiets down quickly. He is more comfortable with adults and older kids - he will quickly warm up if not pressured. Smaller children seem to terrify him, and they do not understand to give him space - so he has barked and growled at smaller children, but has not been snappy. I would recommend a house with older, considerate children only. He and our yellow lab get along great. He has not been around cats, but I am sure they would have no problems putting him in his place. He is not a fan of the kennel, and has learned to escape it. So when we are gone for more than a couple hours, he is kept in an entry way with a bed, toys, food and water. He has never had an accident while we were gone. He has had just a few when we were not quick enough to notice that he needed to go out. We have worked out a routine, and he has done fantastic since. He has chewed up a couple flip flops that were left unattended, but other than that, he has not been destructive. He would be a great addition to any family looking for an adorable, loving dog!
